27th Crystal: [Action]

[Golbez has decided to surprise the FF IV house. He's made up some care packages for Rosa and Rydia, set them up in a pair of boxes, and is currently carrying them over to their house.

Feel free to either greet him at the door, or interrupt him on his way over and ask what the heck he's doing.

I'm recovering...slowly, but I'm already starting to feel better.

[Rydia takes the box once he does, of course.]

Thank you! That was thoughtful.

[She opens it and begins to feel around carefully.]

...potions? Oh, good! I ran out of those a long time ago.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Good to hear.

[He smiles at her reaction, nodding... before remembering she can't see it.]

Yes, and a few remedies, ethers, and various other things as well.

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
[She tries to figure out the differences between them, but without effective eyesight, that's a bit futile.]

I'm sure these will all come in handy. Life doesn't stay uneventful around here for long.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
That's my hope. I try to keep a complete set of everything I can, just in case.

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
That's a good idea. All the better when Ether's aren't ridiculously expensive the way they are at home, too.

[Rydia frowns in thoughtful silence for a moment.]

I wouldn't want to spend the entire lot now when this is probably something that will take time more than anything else to fix, but I could try a Remedy and see if that helps. Which ones are those?

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
[He reaches into the box and pulls out the requested vial, handing it over to her.] Here it is. Let's hope it does something for you.

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Rydia nods and uncaps it, then downs the contents. She doesn't feel anything for a moment, but then sways a little. Her eyes widen for a moment and she blinks...then she sighs and sinks back.]

For a moment, everything seemed to be clearing up...but that only just started to happen before it was snatched away.

[There's a small smile.]

It was worth a shot, though.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
[He watches her reaction with rapt interest, his head raising when she appears to be feeling some sort of effect... but he deflates with her when it proves to be false hope.]

A pity. For a moment, I thought we might have succeeded.

[He places a hand on her shoulder.] Then we must simply wait for your full recovery.

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Rydia nods, a little downcast but hardly about to blame him. He tried to help, and she leaped at the chance. Reaching up, she pats the hand on her shoulder.]

I guess so, but I hardly know what to do with myself until then. Listening in on voices through the journal can only be entertaining for so long. I don't suppose you've had more success with your mirrors?

[Really, anything he tells her would be met with interest.]

[He welcomes the chance to bring up a new subject, something that might actually be able to hold her interest for a while.]

As a matter of fact, I've been following just that line of thought recently. I've come to the conclusion that I can't possibly scry outside of the barrier. The Malnosso's technology is just more than I can work around.

But I can scry inside. And that might have a rather wide variety of practical uses, if we can find the right targets to scry on.

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Her shoulders slump a little. So much for hoping that they'd find out more about the land beyond the barrier. Still, it was a long shot anyway. She perks up at the latter issue, though.]

Kefka, Yuber and anyone like them. I think someone was trying to set up a law enforcement group. It's not the first attempt, of course, but something like this could greatly help them or anyone else when it comes to keeping tabs on those who consistently have no regard for the well-being of others.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[He folds his arms, pondering her suggestion.]

Acceptable targets, all... so you disagree with Cecil and Kain's stance on Kefka, then?

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Rydia rolls her eyes.]

Of course I do. I know the people he's antagonized and they have both past experience and a solid reputation. If he wasn't a threat, they wouldn't have said as much. Cecil's too eager to believe that everyone can or wants to be redeemed and Kain...well, he's just messed up. I tried to tell them otherwise, but I doubt they really listened.

[Scowls. As one might guess, she doesn't take well to being dismissed on something important.]

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods quietly.] I don't know the ones in question, but the situation doesn't exactly seem to lean in Kefka's favor. I can't think of another suspect in the murder of that girl Terra...

Perhaps a scrying will be just what we need to find enough evidence to convince Cecil that Kefka is of a kind with Zemus, rather than himself. Kain... I doubt any evidence brought forth by me will convince him of anything.

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Rydia sighs at that, raking a hand through her hair.]

He'll be stubborn, no matter what. Visual evidence would be enough to convince almost anyone else, but he'd probably think you were tampering with it, somehow. Unless...I Warped him to a location where he could see for himself, I suppose.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2010-01-26 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that would convince even him. The problem is that it would involve us knowing in advance where Kefka will next strike...

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-01-27 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Or we had really good timing, or decided to forgo a life for a while, in order to stalk him....

[She frowns, shaking her head.]

There has to be a better way.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2010-01-28 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps... if I were to set up a series of scrying mirrors around the village, I would be able to keep tabs on him, and inform you of any suspicious movements. It would work for the others as well.

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-01-28 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods slowly.]

That depends no one harming the mirrors, but it's worth a try. At the very least, we might learn more than we did before, even if it takes a while to get what we want from this.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2010-01-28 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
We'll need to properly disguise them to prevent that. Perhaps if we hid them in trees or on roofs... [He folds his hands, contemplating the best way to go about this new plan.]

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[She is, too, and pretty thankful for the diversion.]

...it's possible that might work. I wonder if there's some kind of magic around here that could conceal them, but that potential to severely backfire, if others found out anyway. They might not see it in the same light as simply catching Kefka in the act. Unless there's a way to attune the mirrors only to him or one person at a time...

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true. If someone believes we're attempting to spy on them, that would only make things worse...

Perhaps we need to assemble volunteers. If we told people that we need nothing more of them but to keep a mirror set up in a certain location, in hopes of entrapping our more unpleasant fellow residents, they might be willing to cooperate with us.

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The honest and direct approach is best--and I think we could recruit a number of people, that way. I don't know how well it would last, long-term...but even a short while of this might gain us something.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It's worth an attempt, at the very least. Can you think of anyone in particular?

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
...the Returners, possibly. They already have reasons for wanting to keep track of Kefka. Given his history here, probably anyone who has had unpleasant encounters with him.
