Rydia, the Eidolon Father, Bahamut. He's-

[Golbez is interrupted by a blast of fire near him, loud and bright. The journal falls from his hands to show a wider view of the scene, the tall, armored mage staring off against a towering dragon, large even by the standards of such creatures.]

It seems I have no choice... very well then. Come.

[As battle begins to be joined, Golbez's foot flips the journal shut.]

[By the time anyone reaches the scene of the combat, the battle has been going on for some time, and it shows in the state of both sides. Golbez is breathing heavily and the area around him is completely scorched, though his armor makes it impossible to tell the true extent of his injuries. Bahamut has landed on the ground and is hunkered down, gathering his strength. Both combatants are running on virtually nothing, and it's time for the final clash.

Golbez moves into a casting stance.] Guide my inner shadow, light and dark above...

[Bahamut breathes in deeply, the explosive fury of his Mega Flare attack beginning to charge as Golbez concentrates on his own spell.

Bahamut strikes first. The blast is tremendous, the destructive force horrific. Any sign of Golbez is completely lost in the ensuing explosion.

But just as any hope for his survival begins to wane...]

Transcend the stars! [The glow of magic power shines through the fires of the blast, and Golbez actually rises off the ground a little as his magic pushes the flames aside.]

Meteor!

[The most powerful magic attack in FF IV's universe slams mercilessly into the Father of all Eidolons. Bahamut roars in pain and fury, weathering the assault. Taking in a deep, shuddering gasp, he advances on Golbez...

And collapses.]

[Golbez strides out of the inferno Bahamut's Mega Flare created, holding one arm with the other and limping a bit, but the Dragon King definitely got the worst of this. Bahamut lifts his head as he hears Rydia's voice, and Golbez tenses, lifting his good arm into a battle stance, but rather than attack, Bahamut speaks up.]

Summoner... Rydia of Mist...

[Rydia bows her head, relieved to hear the Eidolon speak. It's a refreshing change of pace from berserking Eidolons all around them.]

Bahamut...please, let me heal you.

[And if he did, she make swift use of her filial healing magic. There's a look to Golbez, definitely curious as to how this came about, but at the moment, the Dragon King took precedence.]

Very... well. I admit, being struck into my senses by the young Lunarian has been... most taxing.

I apologize, great Bahamut. But the situation seemed to require extreme measures. [Golbez looks behind him at the destroyed landscape. Thankfully the fires seem to be petering out due to lack of remaining fuel, if nothing else.]

There is no need for apology. Your solution was the correct one. [As Rydia heals his wounds, Bahamut turns to look at her with more clarity.] Rydia. The other Eidolons... my children are as confused as I was. They will cause great disaster if not stopped.

[Now, it's Golbez's turn. Rydia heals him, then stares back at Bahamut with a grave expression.]

I have seen the results already. My mother's dragon....

[She stares downward for a moment, saddened, then looks up and continues with a firmer tone.]

I'll do my best to help subdue the others. This chaos needs to end.

[Golbez nods at her in solemn thanks before turning his attention back to Bahamut.]

I am pleased to hear you say that. I will be working with the Lunarian, Theo-

Golbez.

[Bahamut's eyes flicker to Golbez, staring at him for a moment before answering.] As you wish. At any rate, Golbez has proven himself worthy of my power, so I will be aiding him in subduing the rest of my wayward children.

[Rydia almost smiles as Bahamut calls Golbez by his true name. Normally, she might tease Golbez about this afterward, but the situation is sufficiently grave and distracting enough for that not to happen. She nods respectfully to the great dragon and shoots a look of pride at Golbez.]

Golbez will be equal to that task, I'm sure. As for me...I have to find the King and Queen next. They're probably around here somewhere.

[Leviathan and Asura. The thought of seeing them in such a state is heartwrenching and it shows briefly, but the young summoner has enough control not to break down. They have work to do.]

Good luck, both of you.

[Golbez nods, hoping silently to himself that she'll forget about Bahamut doing that by the time things cool down (yeah, right).]

That may be asking a bit much in this instance.

[Rydia flashes a grin at that.]

Probably, but I'm a summoner of Mist. I'll do what I can.

[And since all is resolved here, she turns to depart but calls over her shoulder.]
