Before you make a decision on the offer, consider carefully just what they've written.

Aside from the sheer unlikeliness of them allowing us to depart, note that they claim that while we are here, our homeworlds are waiting for us, that our presence is being missed and our continued existence here will cause troubles back home.

To those who have others from their homeworlds here, particularly ones who arrived in Luceti much earlier or later than yourselves, don't you find that claim... strange?

"The letter is a lie."

-- is what it likely is.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it would seem there's at least one blatant lie in it.

Yeah, it is. I saved my world from its threat, and it was peaceful when I was taken. ...And time's supposed to stand still for your home while you're here, isn't it?

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That last point is what I was referring to. How can our presence be missed if events, including the ones we are involved in, seem to have gone the same way?

I wouldn't dream of trying to convince you otherwise, Kain.

[Largely because he knows that his placement on one side of an argument will probably have Kain move to the other side just out of principle.]

Yes, I do find it strange. Someone who recently arrived from my world had no idea that I was gone for over a year and a half. He said he'd seen me six months ago.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
And you're not the only one with experiences like that. That gives us a direct contradiction with what they've said.

[identity profile] floralprophecy.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that does contradict the claim that time is stopped in our worlds while we're here.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. And if there's one lie in their claims, there can easily be more.

[identity profile] aero-dienamic.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It is a little odd but, what I was thinking is that... if I were to return, what exactly would I be returning to? I'm dead after all... or, I'm supposed to be.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, you probably would be sent to the afterlife... so I guess there's no need for you to consider the letter in the first place.

Because they apparently have to debate over EVERYTHING.

[identity profile] lunarborn.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree that it's strange and not at all characteristic of our captors, perhaps there is some truth to the letters.

If we are indeed merely an experiment, perhaps the experiment is failing and we need to be sent home to rectify a larger danger caused by abducting us in the first place.

It is not terrible to have hope.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not that I think it's impossible that a situation would arise where our removal from Luceti would be beneficial to the Malnosso. It's a contradiction to what we know already that's been written into the letter itself that gives me pause.

Consider. When you arrived, the rest of us had already been here for some time. But back home, you didn't notice any disappearances. In fact you'd seen some of them merely days, hours, or minutes ago.

But the letter claims that our presence back home is being missed while we're here.

I find all of it strange and suspicious. It probably is just a way to get our hopes up and lure us into something worse. I won't deny that the lure of returning home is a powerful one, though.

[Voice]

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I quite agree. But the contradiction in the letter to what we already know to be true is what clinches it for me.

It's more than strange, but we don't know how time flows or anything.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
But we do know that those from our homeworlds don't seem to have noticed our disappearances, which is at odds with what the letters say.

[identity profile] truthspuppet.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
You have a point. It could be a trap considering all they said in the letter. But none of us really know what goes on while we're gone, besides it's been two years, they could be finished their research.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I doubt that. We don't know how long the research has been going on exactly, but there's no real sign they've made any breakthroughs.

[Voice]

[identity profile] esper-flight.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That did give me pause. Not once did any of my friends here ever mention my sudden disappearance during our travels together, not like this.

If it is true, then there is something important I need to do at home that I can't avoid, but...why would we get this help now?

"Your existence here is unnatural, and every day you spend here breaks you apart." That's the key phrase, I think. They aren't merely claiming that our worlds are missing us... It's the very act of being here that is breaking our existence apart. ....Looking at it that way, it's rather frightening, and difficult to prove wrong. But I'm more of the mind to agree with you. This is too simple a solution, and too obviously meant to worry us.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
True, but we've seen no evidence that what they're saying on that topic is accurate either. It sounds like scare-mongering to me.

What if a claim like that was made with the intent to make us suspicious? It could be made like that to make us doubt the letter and not try to leave, when the letter could actually be telling us the truth about leaving.

I personally don't trust it... but I can't help but think that.

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
That's a rather convoluted way to go about it, but I suppose we can't rule out reverse psychology.

[identity profile] chaoticelement.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally, I feel I can do more good here, than where I come from.

However, I would be more than happy to examine the portal once it is open, and attempt to ascertain it's validity.

Of course, I may need the help of another powerful mage... I don't suppose you would know of any, would you?

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
You're not alone in that regard.

Hmmm... studying the portal could have merit. I'm a mage, but that's not my area of expertise. Perhaps there are specialists in Luceti somewhere.

[identity profile] holyblade.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
You are worried about what may happen then, if we were to go through this portal? If it is a chance to leave, however...

[identity profile] cladinthedark.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I shall be blunt. I believe those responsible for the letter are attempting to lie and scare-monger us into accepting their terms without full knowledge of what they are doing and the consequences. I do not trust the letter and I shall not be making use of the portal.
