33rd Crystal: [Action]

[They are taking his nephew and his friends, his... friend/sister/something, his former minion, and not him. Oh Golbez is not happy about the latest draft.

But unhappiness is something that should be channeled properly, and so instead of yelling futilely at the Malnosso he is gathering up a set of consumable items for each of the people going out that he knows. Everything from curative items like potions to stat-boosters and even a few offensive items. He'll even be taking a trip down to the store to track down anything else he thinks they should have.

Having already sent out messages via the Malnosso post, he's now waiting for the intended recipients. And pacing.]

[That former minion shows up looking wary.]

Ah, Kain. I'm glad to see you, if a little surprised.

Here. [He holds out a bag.] I gathered up one for each of you. Have a look and tell me if you need anything that isn't there.

[Kain's bag is mostly notable for having a few extra Hermes Sandles and no mana-regaining items.]

[Like Kain wants to be here, or to remember the recent experiment and switching with him... not to mention the last draft and having to be saved by him...]

[...But he knows they need all the help they can get. He's trying to keep that in mind. As he glances through the items, Kain does indeed notice they'd be most usable by him.]

[After a moment he nods slowly.]

[Golbez will be there to ~~try and fail to~~ save you this time too Kain, in spirit. He watches Kain's reaction carefully, and nods back when he gets the confirmation.]

Good. Then I have one more thing I'd like to say to you.

... Kain, good luck. And please, try to watch out for Rydia and the children. I wouldn't ask it of you, but there's no one else who will be there that I can.

[The last sentence is referring to Ceodore and friends, of course. He knows darn well Kain would look after Rydia whether or not he asked.]

[~~Ceodore will fail for you instead!~~ Kain narrows his eyes for a moment, still tense and wary around Golbez, never quite sure how to deal with him.]

[He makes an annoyed face about the 'kids'. They're not his responsibility, he wants to argue, but...]

['I will,' he answers, more referring to Rydia.]

[Of course, Rydia is quick to join them, wary of leaving the two alone for long. She approaches, nodding at Golbez.]

We'll all watch out for each other. It's the best way to return intact, after all.

Ah, Rydia. So you did come together. Hold on, I'll get your bag.

[He turns to go pick it up, continuing to talk.] Thank you, both of you. Since I can't be there it's... reassuring to know I can rely on you two.

Of course.

[He holds the card up firmly, because his need to prove himself always wins out. It's only after that when he realizes that this is Golbez he's saying this to, so he makes another annoyed face.]

[Rydia notices, and there's a brief grin before she turns her attention to Golbez. When he gets her bag, she reaches out for it.]

I wish you were coming with us, but we'll be in good hands. I know plenty of those going and I'm sure together, we can manage a good plan.

[And then she moves to stand by Kain, doing her best to silently reassure him with her presence.]

There isn't much time, but at least we can get in some training before we go.

[He makes note of the card but doesn't push his luck by mentioning it, just giving Kain a nod.]

I'm sure you can. Good luck and fight well, you two.

[Kain nods. He'd always give his best effort after all.]

[Ceodore shows up with friends in tow, curious about the serious tone from earlier but otherwise in a rather spectacular mood. He should be more somber given Frey's circumstances, but he's just too chipper that he's being included this time. ~~Clearly he missed that there were children on the list too.~~]

Uncle?

[Selphie's not far behind Ceodore but she's feeling a bit subdued because of Frey's Mom and the fact that she has little time to find armour to protect herself with. She just can't hide the worry on her face as she reaches for one of Ceodore's hands.]

[And Frey's a bit behind them, lagging a little. He's very obviously exhausted, with slight rings under his eyes, but putting up a good front in spite of it. The draft came first. Making sure he was ready came first, and he wasn't going to make a bad impression on this man for a first real meeting.

Those are all things he thinks his mother would have wanted him to do.]

[He opens the door and waves the three in.]

I'm glad you all could make it so quickly. I have a few things for you, so please, come inside.

[Ceodore gives Selphie's hand a light squeeze then leads the way in after giving Frey a clap of support on the shoulder.]

Sure. It sounded important.

[Selphie nods and casts a sympathetic glance at Frey before following the leader inside.]

You do?

[Frey smiles slightly at them both, trying to reassure them.]

Of course. Thank you for inviting me.

Yes, it is important, though only that you all came to me before you had to leave. I've been preparing things for an occasion like this and I believe you're all going to be able to get some use out of these.

[He grabs a bag for each of them from his sitting room table.] First things first. Each of these contains items that should help you during the upcoming conflict. They're not much, but as I won't be able to accompany you personally, I hope they help.

Thanks. We'll put them to good use.

[Ceodore backs up that promise with a serious nod. Even if he's excited, he knows this is not a lark they're leaving for.]

[Selphie opens up the bag and starts rooting through the items in the bag. Her eyes widen in surprise before she looks up at Golbez and gives him a firm nod.]

We'll be careful. And I won't be put in the back row, right Ceodore? [There's a challenging glint in her eyes Derp-for-brains. She's daring you~]

Thank you. These will be useful.

[He also looks in the bag, noticing these are items he's not familiar with. hmm...] Someone will have to show me what's what though. Some of these look similar to medicine, but other then that I don't recognize most of it.

Not to worry. Ceodore and Selphie should be able to demonstrate the proper use.

Now, there's one more thing. Which of you is the most skilled in use of offensive magic?

Not I. I have none.

[He looks to Selphie, fairly confident it's her. And there's that question of hers to handle.]

You're a ranged fighter and a mage. In the back makes sense.

[Boyfriend is officially getting a very pointed glare at the moment. She means business this time and there's a definite tone of finality in her voice. She has no intentions of having this conversation with you again, Ceodore.]

It depends on what the Malnosso give me and I am not a ranged fighter and I will not be in the back row. There's a big difference between a ranged fighter and a melee fighter. As it was demonstrated when we first used the Battle Dome in the simulation of Garden's training centre. To which point I have said upon numerous occasions that we do not have front rows or back rows in our battle tactics.

But anyway, I'm not a sorceress so I don't have the ability to learn magic. I need to have a Guardian Force equipped in order to use magic. But for some reason I can use the magic that's stocked in my weapon here. I really oughtta ask them about them one of these days.

[Ohhh dear. Ceodore, will you never learn? Frey decides to interject with his own world's logic.] If I might suggest..... There's more then just a front and back row in battle? People do move around, and depending on the enemy, rows do no good and formations might need to be changed mid-fight. To set someone as "back row" without seeing the fight you are facing might be troublesome.

And Nunchaku are mid-range weapons, not "ranged" weapons. People who use them do best closer to the enemy or at a short distance from them.

[He raises a hand.] Enough. Ceodore, I'd expect you to have more of a grasp of Selphie's abilities. It sounds to me like you aren't even certain what she's capable of. Remedy that, and try to stop making assumptions.

Regardless. If none of you are skilled in offensive magic that could be a problem. Fortunately, I have something that might help as a workaround. One moment.

[He marches over to a desk and proceeds to fiddle around with it, pressing various spots and opening and closing drawers seemingly randomly. His purpose only becomes clear when a secret drawer pops out... and hidden inside it, what can only be a Crystal.]

I've had this for some time now, but only now do I believe I've found a proper use for it. [He lifts it out and holds it out towards the group.] This Crystal was imbued with power over gravity during an event quite some time ago. Use of it will allow magic from that school even for those who lack magical talent ordinarily. I'm entrusting it to you three during the coming battle.

[The chastisement, Ceodore takes in dead silence. His only response is to look down firmly at the floor. It's not in him to argue back and he feels foolish enough to want to crawl under a rock somewhere. At least he didn't get hit.

Use of the word 'Crystal' grabs his attention and sends his head jerking up for him to stare at it wide-eyed. He knows all too well how very important a Crystal is and for that reason, he doesn't move an inch to claim it for himself. He's not worthy and he knows it.]

So whoever holds it can use offensive magic then. But wouldn't it put whoever's holding it at a significant disadvantage? I mean... you can't really fight with a weapon and hold a magic crystal in the other. Should we take turns with it?

[Selphie's never seen a Crystal before so the notion of it is a bit bewildering.]

I can use plenty of offensive magic, but I'm more of a fighter then a mage. I don't think I could use it. [He's too speed oriented in a fight to pause much for magic. Peering curiously at the crystal, though. Is it like a handheld rune...?]

If not turns, is anyone else besides the three of us going to be in our unit? Do we have someone who focuses on magic coming with us?

It's true that one can't use a weapon to defend themselves while wielding it. However, while I haven't actually tested it in combat situations, the experiments I performed when I made it would suggest that the danger is more than made up for in sheer destructive power. I would advise using it in situations where several enemies have to be grounded at once.

[He turns to Frey.] There is at least one. Rydia. But she wields powerful magic already and I question the use she would get from this. I'm sure it would have its place among her spells, but I believe you three can get more out of it.

[He's basically giving you Graviga, guys.]

[The notion of magically imbued items isn't a foreign concept at all to Ceodore but what's being offered is a mighty gift indeed and he knows it. Where his friends are curious and questioning, his response is more of an awed reverence.]

Are you certain, Uncle?

[There's also budding realization he's probably the best one to utilize it, but he's far too hesitant to step forward and claim it.]

[Selphie looks at the crystal again.]

I could hang onto it for now and then we can decide who should wield it when we get here?

[He looks to Golbez.]
It's a good idea to evenly spread out our resources so no one person has all the magical power in a group, so I agree it might be best if Rydia is indeed that powerful.

And that's an excellent idea, we'll be able to decide once we know what we'll be up against.
