[Out in the yard behind community housing building 2, Golbez is in the middle of a project.

A very strange project.

For some reason, he has set up four mirrors, each in one of the four cardinal directions, and is floating in the middle of them in a meditative posture.

Those who look at the mirrors will see nothing recognizable. Colors and shapes appear on them, but they seem to be completely random.

Care to try and figure out what in the world he's doing?]

[Rydia pauses nearby, watching him with a puzzled expression. Sure, she'll ask the obvious question.]

What are you doing?

[He's silent for a moment before turning his head to her. When he does, the colors and shapes on the mirrors fade and they go back to simply reflecting what's in front of them. That's a lot of Golbez reflections...]

I'm attempting to scry outside of the barrier. It occurred to me that just because we can't escape, doesn't necessarily mean we can't at least see what's out there. Unfortunately I am having trouble getting the spell to work right.

[Ah, it's Grandpa Golbez! What is Grandpa doing? She goes look into one of the mirror and tries to touch the swirly colours and shapes inside them.]

[She steps closer, intrigued--and very, very eager for distractions.]

I can't say I'm too surprised if they can block scrying, too, but it's worth the attempt.

[The mirror is oddly warm to the touch, considering the cold outside. As she touches it, a little tingle will run through her, like a mild static shock. Golbez twitches, but is not yet brought out of his trance.]

The results I've achieved so far are disappointing, but somewhat enlightening. The barrier appears to have a magic effect that interferes with scrying much like a filter placed on a journal entry. That is what appears on the mirrors when I attempt my spell.

It's... incredibly intricate.

Still, it's more than we knew before. That's a start.

...mind if I stick around and watch, if you're going to make another attempt? There didn't seem to be a pattern in what I saw, but I wasn't watching for very long.

[You know who will bear witness to this? One H. Caine. Why? Well, because he lives in this building, and he is making his way somewhere. Plus this... kinda stands out]

[He doesn't seem to notice the cop, still staring into the... chaos swarming on the mirrors.]

[Here comes a dragoon who will take a defensive stance and watch with a wary expression.]

[They're mirrors, Kain. What the heck do you think they're going to do to you?

Not that Golbez even seems to notice him approaching.]

[She lets out a little cry of shock and steps away from it]

[Kain doesn't trust anything on principle. He approaches cautiously and then pauses, folding his arms and watching.]

[And that's... interesting. The mirror does not seem to be reflecting what was there. Well, let's get closer...]

[That breaks him out of it. He lowers his head to look at her, and the images on the mirrors fade away.]

Kirimi. Hello.

[After a few more moments of the images on the mirrors churning, Golbez breaks out of his trance with a grunt and unfolds his legs to lower them to the ground. He sees Kain immediately after.]

I'm surprised you'd come around here.

[What the mirror is reflecting, though, is pretty hard to determine. It seems to be some kind of bizarre combination of a code and a TV channel which refuses to come in properly.

Once H gets close enough that his footsteps on the snow are clearly audible to Golbez, the man's concentration breaks, and he unfolds his arms and legs, moving from his floating position into a standing one. The images on the mirrors fade away as Golbez turns to Caine.]

[He shrugs to that. He gets around, sometimes, though admittedly prefers wandering in the wilderness to town more often. Gestures to the mirrors with a "wtf" sort of expression.]
